A package and a paper slip are in the compartment. Something is wrapped in the package, but it has never been opened before. The paper slip is the original slip which records some information about the family who first owned the statue. In 1772, there was a family lived in a small county in Hu Nan province of China. One of the couple's sons was very sick. They commissioned an artist to carved the deity statue. Before they started to pray to the statue, they had an opening ceremony to give the statue aura. The most important part of the ceremony was to put the paper slip that recorded the purpose of carving the figure in the compartment in the back of the statue. The family wished they could have good health and a better life. They had someone write down where they lived, what they wanted and the date they had the ceremony on a piece of rice paper. This original paper is still in the compartment of the statue. There is some wear to the surface with small chips and hairline cracks.
Some parts of the base have chipped off. The paper slip in the compartment of the statue is in rough shape. Please refer to the photos. Thank you for visiting my store.
